Tamborito is the music genre most representative of Panama. It has very strong African influences, but also European ones, as could be seen from the drums and the caja.

There are several different subgenres according to the pace of the drums and of the region of origin. A trained person can even know from what town the group is by hearing the tamborito they perform.

In addition to the drums, a lead voice or cantalante has a very important part in the tamborito. She is answered by the choir.
